Organic produce cheat sheet

My Paper Crane has an adorable cheat sheet for which produce is best to buy organic (because they retain less or no pesticide residue) up on her page. She made a free download for it, so you can print it up yourself and keep it in your wallet for reference. I think this is a great idea because I can never remember what's on the list when I am standing in the grocery store.

Just an aside, I have been a fan of My Paper Crane's work for a long time. Check out her shop for some adorable hand-made plush and paper artwork!

How to get a deal on contacts

I always buy contacts every summer because I cannot stand to wear my glasses in the sweaty heat, plus they are super inconvenient for swimming and going to the beach. And I want to wear sunglasses! So I thought I would share the best deal I found for buying contacts.

The brand I bought is Focus Dailies. There are cheaper brands out there, but this is what works best for my eyes. I looked around for the best price and found that at Vision Direct.

I searched Ebates, and low and behold, they offer 8% cash back from Vision Direct! So I clicked through.

I bought 8 boxes in order to get the bulk discount price of $31.74 per box. This saved me $26.

Then I used coupon code NEWVISION15 for 15% off my first order. This saved me about $44. They currently advertise this code on their site, but there are a lot of other codes out there too. I found a bunch on Coupon Cabin.

Shipping is free on orders over $99.

And there is a $40 rebate for this brand if you buy 8 boxes.

Thus:

I saved $70.09 with bulk discount and coupon code.
I spent $252.82 (on my HSA account, so pre-taxed!)
Will get back a $40 rebate and $20.23 back from Ebates.
Net cost = $192.59

These would have cost me at least $350 (probably more) in my eye doctor's office!!
Moral of the story: just a little bit of googling and research can save you hundreds of dollars.

Disclaimer: I have heard that sometimes when you use coupon codes after clicking through Ebates, sometimes you won't get your cash back. That would be disappointing, but it's still certainly worth giving it a try. As always, YMMV. I will try to update on whether I get my cash back or not.

ETA: I just got my cash back from Ebates! $19.99!!

50% off imagiPLAY natural toys!!

At Zulily they have a new deal for up to 50% off imagiPLAY toys through 4/29. These are some really beautiful, natural toys. You aren't going to find a better deal on these anywhere.

Shipping is $6.95

You can use codes: STRAF10 or DEALISH10 for $10 off an order of $30 or more (must be before shipping is added)

You may also try code: BAB10 which is supposed to be for $10 off any order. It worked for me when I had over $30 in my cart, but when I tried again with just $17.49 in the cart, it didn't work. So, it's worth a try, but YMMV.

48% off Melissa and Doug Puzzles

If you like Melissa and Doug puzzles, like I do, you will be interested in Amazon's deal right now. They have the puzzles up to 48% off. You can see them all HERE.

Deal on organic kid clothes, baby bedding, and women's clothes

If you haven't joined bTrendie yet, I highly recommend it. They have short-term deals on selected items at a deep discount. They often feature "green" products such as organic clothing and eco-friendly toys. Currently they have some adorable organic kids' clothing by Purebaby and some organic baby bedding by Kushies. There are also some other very sweet deals running right now. Each "event" typically runs for a few days, so you have that time to purchase the items before they run out. New members get $10 off their first order.
I ordered a Melissa and Doug barn toy from them a couple weeks ago which I got for $26 total. It is about $40 in stores. Shipping took a little less than a week.

Zulily is another sight that is similar. Right now they have Kate Quinn Organics clothes for women (including maternity wear), which is a lovely company with beautiful products. Plus some other great "events."

30% off GroBaby diapers!!

I have been oggling these diapers ever since I first saw them. If my daughter was younger, I would definitely take advantage of this deal. But at this point I would rather her be potty-trained than wearing a new diaper...
Anyways, the wonderful natural parenting online boutique, Franklin Goose, has all GroBaby products for 30% off right now. This is an amazing deal b/c you will almost NEVER see these for less than SRP. The Gro Baby Shell Set is $17.47, down from $24.95! (Add it to your cart to see the discounted price). I am so excited to share this deal with those of you with young babies in cloth!

It would be even more awesome if you took advantage of last month's promotion to get $5 credit for every product review. I have $80 in credits sitting around waiting to use for xmas gifts this year.

15% off Kicky Pants

Okay, so this isn't the deepest discount ever, but there is a coupon code at Polka Dot Peacock for 15% off Kicky Pants bamboo basics. I LOVE this company's clothes. They are the softest ever, and bamboo is an amazing fabric. It's temperature regulating and antimicrobial! Penny has quite a few things from the KP brand and it's all super nice. So if you are interested in trying some out, this might be a good time b/c you don't see a lot of discounts for this kind of thing. Polka Dot Peacock is also a really neat website, but quite pricey...
Anywho, the code is: KICKY and is good through 5/9/2010.

Cheap Cloth Diaper Inserts

If anyone is in the market for some inserts for pocket diapers, I found a great deal at Diaper Piper. They have xsmall and small size Happy Heinys microfiber inserts for $1.99 each These are usually $3 each, and this website has them the cheapest I have ever found. These are my favorite inserts (for day wear) b/c they have great absorbency. I actually put them into my BumGenius diapers as well. And smalls work just fine for my 23+ lb. toddler. I just thought I would share this great deal in case anyone is looking for something like this. BTW, you do have to pay shipping, but it is very reasonable.

CVS trip 4/21

1 Box of Pampers (82 ct.) @ $21.99 (on sale from $23.99) - used $3/1 CVS coupon and $2/1 MFQ = $16.99 + got $5 ECBs
2 picture frames @ b1G1 50% off - $4.99 + $2.49 = $7.48
1 Oral-B Cross-action @ $4 - used $2/1 MFQ = $2 + got $4 ECBs (I used a rain-check for this deal)
1 half gallon milk @ @ $1.79

OOP = $30.26
+ got $9.50 ECBs (.50 of that was my quarterly award)
Net = $20.76

That's definitely not a bad deal considering the diapers alone would have been more than that if I'd paid SRP!

Earth Day Babylegs

Babylegs has two organic babyleg designs on sale this week for $2 each (with $1 donated to the Nature Conservancy). And their other organics are 20% off with code: Organic.

Can you tell I love this product?

Earth Day Sales!

Earth Day brings with it a lot of great deals. Here are just a couple from my inbox this morning:

Spring Hill Nursery is having an up 67% off sale. Pretty much everything on the site is on sale, some more discounted than others. There are some great deals to be had there.

Better World Books, one of my favorite places to buy books, has a coupon code for 20% off 3 used books. I use this site all the time and absolutely love the idea behind it. Proceeds from book sales go to support literacy programs around the world. And shipping is always free (not matter how small your order), but they do offer carbon offset shipping for just a few pennies per order. Plus, if you are buying used books, you are keeping them out of landfills! The coupon code is EARTHDAY10.

Spring Hill Nursery: 67% off sale!

Better World Books: 20% off 3 or more used books with code EARTHDAY10. Biokleen coupon!

I just got an email from mambosprouts with a $1/1 Biokleen product. This is a rare coupon so I am pretty excited about it. We use the Bac-out product for all kinds of things, including stanky cloth diaper pails. It is an amazing product and I love the lime smell of it. It runs about $10 a bottle (at Kroger and other places), so any deal I can get on it makes me happy. Here's a link to the coupon.

Payless BOGO + 20% off (+ 8% cash back)

I went to Payless today to get my little sister some new tap and ballet shoes (her feet grow so fast!!) and I was psyched b/c I know they are having a BOGO sale right now and that is about the only way you will ever get a sale on dance shoes. I still had one of those 20% Catalina coupons that I blogged about a couple weeks ago. I used that on the shoes that were full price. So I got one pair for 20% off and one for 50% off. Nice, eh?

My point in posting this is really to let you all know, in case you didn't already, that you can use a coupon along with the BOGO sale, but it will only apply to the full price pairs that you buy. I just figured this might be a little known fact. On the coupon it does say that it isn't valid with any other offers, but apparently a BOGO sale doesn't count for that. However, the BOGO sale does count for clearance merchandise (I'm not sure if the coupon does, but probably).

Also,if you don't have any coupons, but if you have AAA membership, show them your card and get 10% off. (however, this doesn't apply to dance shoes for some reason).

AND if you give Payless your phone number while you are there, you will get text messages with coupons in them. I got a 20% off one a week ago.

OR if you want to shop online, the BOGO sale applies, and you can use the code 31491 for 20% off (through today). You will have to pay $5.95 shipping, but you can make up for that by shopping through ShopAtHome for 8% cash back!

BTW, Payless does carry organic shoes from Zoe and Zac!

Earth Day Coupon Codes

I just got an email from Annie's with several coupon codes for various eco-companies:

Laken BPA-free water bottles: "annies" to save 25% off a bottle.

Preserve tableware and storage containers: "ANNIESPICNIC" for 20% off.

Recycle Bras!

I just thought I would highlight a nice program I just came across:

The Bosom Buddies is a textile recycling company that specializes in recycling bras. They use them for girls and women who are experiencing difficult times in their lives and may be in need of a necessity such as a quality bra, which might be something that is unaffordable or unattainable in their situation. I read that recently they have been sending bras to women in Kenya who need them.

I think this is a great program because bras are one of those things that I have ended up buying a lot of throughout my life, only to end up not liking them weeks later, or not fitting in them not long after buying them due to weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy, etc. I know I have a plethora of sizes of nursing bras too that I have accumulated through my now almost 2 year breastfeeding career. And I always debate on donating them to thrift stores because I feel like not many people are willing to buy a used bra at a thrift store (I know it's silly, but there is just an ick factor to it for me), so they are probably just going to go to waste, possibly even ending up in a landfill eventually, and that's the last thing I want. I would rather send them to a charity which will be sure to get them into the hands of women who need and want them.

Obviously, The Bosom Buddies only accept clean bras which are in good condition. But if you are anything like me, you probably have a closet-full of these things that could use a good home.

So, what are you waiting for? Send 'em away.

For the record, I found out about this program from my daily emails from Smart2begreen, which I love!

15% off at Babylegs.com

Use the code TAXDAY for 15% off an order at Babylegs.

More tax day deals to follow, I'm sure.

Petsmart 4/13

I was really excited to go to Petsmart today because I had some awesome coupon ammunition that s few and far between for Science Diet cat food! (yes, you can make fun of me for being excited about buying cat food)

Here's what I did:

1 17.5 lb. bag Science Diet Light @ $27.99 ($32.99 w/o pet perks card!)
1 17.5 lb. bag Science Diet Indoor @ $28.49 ($36.49 w/o pp card!)
1 wooden cat comb on clearance @ $4.97
1 cat scratcher box @ $6.97 (I think this was on sale too)
2 cans Science Diet wet food @ .90 ea.
2 cat toys @ $1.03 ea. ($1.29 w/o pp)

Used:
2 $5/1 Science Diet printables from HERE
2 Pet Perks Birthday coupons for $3 off cat toy (w/a $10 purchase)
1 peelie for 2 free Science Diet wet foods (found on 17.5 lb bag)

OOP = $58.79
Saved = $17.90 (not counting Pet Perks and clearance savings)

Pair this with the Target deal I did last week to get 80 lbs. of Arm and Hammer cat litter for $21 (got a $5 gc for buying 2 boxes) - plus free cat treat samples in the boxes -- and I have one happy cat!

Target 4/13

I scored some great deals at Target today, even with the accompaniment of a tantrum-throwing toddler!

Grocery:
Annie's Bunny Crackers @ $1.99 - on sale
Bear Naked granola @ $3.79 - used $1/1 printable = $2.79
Chocolate Silk soymilk @ $2.69 - used .75/1 MFQ = $1.94

Bedding:
Queen size bed pillow @ $4.04 - used $1.50/1 Target printable = $2.54
Circo kid's sheet set@ 13.99 - used 20%/1 Target printable = $11.19

Kitchen:
6 pack kids tumblers @ $1.38 - clearance
6 pack kids bowls @ $1.38 - clearance

Outdoor:
Solar walk-way light @ $3.00 - used $2/1 Target printable = $1.00

Dollar spot:
box of Brawny sandwich bags @ 1.00 - dollar spot
beach towel @ $2.50 - used $1/1 Target printable = .50
set of 4 bamboo placemats @ $2.50 (I hang these on the wall and hang my earrings on them)

Baby:
A&D Ointment @ $3.94 - used $2/1 Target Q (from mailer) and $1/1 MFQ from Parent's Mag (I think) = .99
California Baby bug repellent @ $12.99 - used $1/1 = $11.99 (you don't really find much better deals on this stuff, sadly)

-My store was all out of the Kandoo travel wipes which would have been .65 after MFQ
-Also, Huggies wipes are on sale for $1.66 this week, so if you have any Qs for that, this is a good time to use them. I didn't have any on me today.

*I only bought the A&D because I thought I had read the price as $2.99, so I thought I was getting it for free after Qs, but apparently it either rang up wrong or I read the price wrong. I have to go back to return some clothes, so I will double-check the price then. I might return it and get my dollar back b/c I really don't need this (was going to give it away or sell it in my yard sale), but if I did need it, this would be a great price on it...

All of those Target printables came from HERE although some of them may no longer be available. Remember, you can stack Target store Qs with Manufacturer Qs to get excellent savings!

ETA: I took the A&D back to the store. The employee looked at my receipt and said the ointment did ring up at the sale price of $2.99, but apparently my cashier rang my $2 Q, but not my $1 one. Since I had no way to prove that I had given the coupon, I just went ahead and got a refund. However, if you happen to have the Target mailer Q and the MFQ from the newspaper, you can get free A&D right now. Just make sure they scan both of your coupons!

Wag's 4/12

2 Blue Diamond almond canisters @ $3.49 ea. - B1G1 - used $1/2 MFQ = $2.49 for both
2 Benadryl Allergy and Cold @ $4.99 ea. - used $5/2 MFQ = $4.98 + got $5 RR
1 Arizona Tea @ .59 - used Wag's in-ad Q

Total = $8.06
used $7 RRs from last Wag's trip
OOP = $1.75!!

My receipt said I saved over $19 (and that doesn't count RRs). Can you believe that stuff would have cost over $20 at full price. That is just insane!!

I had a little scuffle with the manager over my RR for the Benadryl that didn't print. He tried to say I used a MFQ from the same manufacturer, blahdy blah. Number 1, no I didn't, and Number 2, that wouldn't matter anyways. I won't get into the details, but after I explained to him the fallacy of his logic, he said he would print them for me "this time." Gee thanks for fixing a mistake that your computer made and trying to imply that you were doing me a favor as if I was in the wrong here. It was so annoying b/c this is the second time in the past few weeks that a RR didn't print when it should have and I had to deal w/him. So now it looks like I am trying to pull a scheme, when really I just have bad luck and end up picking the one item off the shelf which is not put into the computer correctly. Whatevs.

**ETA: I just read that the Schick Hydro Gel RR is currently rolling-- meaning you can buy a Hydro Gel and get a $3 RR, and then use it to buy another Hydro Gel (+ a small filler item to get you over the $3 since the gel is only $2.99). This is kind of big news in the Wag's world b/c it is a glitch, so it's pretty sweet, but it could end at any time when they figure out the mistake. I guess this is to make-up for the Benadryl RR not working...

Happy Green Bee Clearance!!!

Holy mackeral, Happy Green Bee is having a HUGE clearance sale. I have mentioned HGB before because I love their clothes so much. It is all made of organic cotton in a sustainable way and in ethical working conditions. And the clothes are amazing quality. Penny has quite a few of their pieces and we constantly get compliments on them. Especially the petal dress.
Things are 80% off and sizes are running out fast, so get clicking! (not on the sizing - I think they tend to run a bit large. Penny wears a size small right now and she is 23 lbs. at 22 months old). I stocked up on clothes for when she is older b/c there were more Mediums and Larges in stock.
Shipping is free for orders over $35!!

Toys R' Us Clearance!

So I went crazy at TRU last week b/c all of their 7th Generation cleaning products and a log of the organic and natural baby bath products were on clearance! Buy it when it's cheap: that's my motto.

I did this in 2 trips, but here's the breakdown:

18 of 7th Generation cleaners (dish soap, laundry detergent, all purpose sprays, bleach, toilet cleaner, etc.) @ $1.98 ea. - used $1/1 MFQs (I bought 20 on ebay a while back) = .98 each
2 of 7th Generation large disinfectant wipes canisters @ $6.79 and $3.40 (they were B1G1 50% off - used $1/1 MFQs = $8.19
1 of 7th Generation travel wipes @ $2.49 - $1/1 MFQ = $1.49

Meyer's hand soap @ $3.98
Meyer's hand lotion @ $3.98 (that's still pricey at half off, but I love the smell of this stuff, so I splurged)

3 boxes of Method dishwasher tabs @ 1.98 ea.

1 California Baby gift set @ $9.98 (the bath soap alone usually costs this much, so this is a great deal!)

9 Kiss My Face kid bath products @ 1.98 ea. - used 4 $2/1 pritables (from KMF website)
1 Kiss My Face lip balm set @ .98

4 Jason Naturals bath products @ 1.98 ea.

3 boxes of Dr. Sears Popumz (5 bags in each) @ $1.98 ea.
8 individual bags of Popumz @ .68 ea.

*Got $5 off my order for spending $30 (pre-Q) on 7th Generation.
*Will submit for $5 7th Generation rebate.

OOP (before taxes) = $74.34
Saved: $171

++I estimated my savings by looking up the typical retail prices of each product on the internet b/c my receipt did not have the original prices on it.++

Remke

Everyone in my area is going coupon crazy over Remke super doubles. I have looked over the lists on momslikeme and other places and I have to say that it really doesn't seem worth my time to do this promo because the lists of things people are getting sound like a bunch of nasty, processed junk that I don't want to put in my body (or my family). Do I really need Kool-aid Fizz or Little Debbie 100 Calorie Snack Bites, etc.? Even if they are free, I think the cost in time, gas to get the the store, and health deterioration is just not worth it. I have to say I am actually relieved to not have to worry about getting my coupons organized for this one.

I want to see super double produce coupons!!

Net = $1.02

Things got a little screwy though. I am actually just now realizing this as I examine the receipt: I didn't have a $4 Lacross purchase, but the $2/$4 Q scanned w/out beeping, however it did not double. I thought I had a $4 purchase because all of the tweezers and clippers were a total mess and it was hard to match things up with the correct prices. Actually I had no idea the emery boards werw $3.59, or I wouldn't have bought them, but since I ended up getting the $2/$4 Q, things evened out. I did go to the service desk and got my $2 back when my coupon didn't double (even though I had asked the cashier at the time if it had doubled and she said yes).
A big confusing mess. Moral of the story: always check your receipt before you leave the store AND never expect Kmart to be an easy shopping experience...

However, I did win a roll of papertowels from my Kmart Rewards Card -- but I didn't cash in for it yet b/c by the time I was done with the service desk and going through all that hassle for such a small transaction, I was annoyed and didn't want to stay in the store any longer than I had to. I plan on making another trip this week to see what else I can get. Hopefully the second round is a lot smoother.

P.S. If you are wondering why I need so many tweezers and clippers, I don't. I will be selling them in my yard sale soon.

100 photo prints for $10

Snapfish is celebrating their 10th Birthday. As a favor, today they are offering 100 photo prints for $10 (including S&H!) using the code: APR5BD. It is only good until April 7th, so start your uploading today! This is a great company that I have had nothing but good experiences with.

New customers also get 50 free prints! So that could mean 150 free prints for you! You will need to use the coupon code by April 7, but the 50 free ones for being a new customer are good for a month I think.

Click through Ebates or ShopAtHome and get 7.5% back. Although I have heard that when you use coupon codes, sometimes you don't get your cashback, but it's always worth a try!

Free Shipping on Preserve

I love my Preserve toothbrushes! They are simple, effective, and good for the environment because they are made from recycled yogurt cups. Even better, when you are done using them, you can send them back to the company and they will recycle them for you! And at $2.79 per brush, the price is not bad either!
Preserve has released a coupon code for free shipping on any order (through April 30): EarthMonthFS

You can find Preserve products at various retailers, including Target and Kroger, but if you would rather have the products delivered right to your door, this is for you. Plus, you can use the subscription feature so you don't have to remember to buy new toothbrushes when they wear out, they will just come to you automatically.

Preserve has many other great products too, such as razors and kitchen ware.

20% off kid's shoes at Endless.com

So I recently came across the website Endless.com. It is a shoe website run by Amazon. They have some pretty great deals on there. I was browsing for kids' sandals a while back and found that they had some styles from expensive brands such as Umi and Naturino for half the price of other well-known websites that I usually frequent ( I won't name because I don't want to give them bad press).
The shoes pictured above are originally $55.95 (!). But they are on sale on Endless for $30.77. Still a lot for toddler shoes, but these are extremely good quality and will be something you can pass on to future children (or friends' children).
To make it a better deal, a lot of the kids shoes (including the ones above) are 20% off if you buy 2 pairs.
Shipping is free on new styles.

Search KIDSPR2010 to see all the shoes that qualify for this offer.

For the record, I ordered some shoes from this site LAST NIGHT and they arrived TODAY! That is the fastest anything has ever been shipped to me!

*Also, click through BigCrumbs for 12% back, or Ebates or ShopAtHome for 6% back!

Kmart Doubles

Kmart Super Doubles starts 4/4!
The rules are pretty lame this time, as you are only able to double 5 coupons per day. If Kmart wasn't right down the street from me, I probably wouldn't even bother with this, but free is free. Myfrugaladventures has the rules and coupon match-ups on her blog if you are interested in giving it a go.

Hanna Andersson Free Shipping

If you are a Hanna Andersson fan, like I am, you might be psyched for this. Facebook Fans of Hanna Andersson get free shipping on any order today. They are having a dress and swim sale right now (through April 4), so you could at least get a little bit of a deal on some really AMAZING clothes. Their stuff is the best quality and I love everything we own by this brand (all of which I purchased on Ebay, but that's neither here nor there). If you have a little extra cash to spend on summer clothes, this would be a great time to do it. All of their clothes are Oeko-Tex Certified and a lot of them are organic cotton too. My favorite product is their organic PJs. They are so soft and well-made!

You can use this link and then click "join us on facebook" in order to become a fan and get the link for the free shipping deal from their facebook page.

Seventh Generation Rebate

There is a rebate HERE for $5 when you buy 3 Seventh Generation products between 3/15 and 6/30 (excluding single rolls of toilet paper). I got the all-purpose cleaner from Target last week for .99 after Qs. Hopefully I can get a couple more of those and make this into a $2 money-maker!

20% off Babylegs

Babylegs released a coupon code today for 20% off an order. The code is FOOLSDAY. There are a bunch of pairs on sale for $8 right now, including the ones pictured above. They would be $6.40 after the code! Penny has 5 pairs of Babylegs and we love them. They were especially handy before she could walk, but we still use them for an extra layer when the weather is cold.
