I had a request to post what a basic trip to the grocery store for the necessary things looks like for me. I plan and match my Qs with sales the best I can, but sometimes you just need bread and broccoli asap and there's not much you can do about prices, so I just try to balance it out with getting some things free/cheap and paying extra for some other things that I want natural/organic/etc.

I will also post another smaller trip that involved less planning and was more typical next, so you can get a real idea of what my Kroger shopping looks like.
Awesome trip!! So do you plan a meal menu for the week? That is my biggest issue w/ mega events. I stock up on all the killer deals but when it comes down to my oop price, I am at my budget for the week. Most of the time we end up with not having enough to actually make meals for the week...Does this ever happen to you? Or am I missing something!?
ReplyDeleteYeah it has happened. I am total shit at meal planning. That is something I am hoping to work on. But generally if I have enough veg and some kind of meat or bean and a grain (there's always rice and pasta in abundance), then it's not a big deal.
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd mention that I have started getting ground beef at Wassler meats b/c they have local beef and it's only 3.49/lb. And for chicken I buy Amish chicken at Kroger whch is my compromise between the regular pumped full of abx stuff, and the way too pricey organic stuff.
And I generally go to the farmer's market in Northside on Wedndsdays, so that helps to fill in some of the gaps.
Have you seen Rhubarb at the FM?
ReplyDeleteNo,but I've never looked for it.
